Abstract head of the substitution group for project-scoped groups: groups whosemembers cite the group, rather than the group listing its members. A member carriesa reference to its group (diggs:samplingFeatureGroupRef, diggs:sampleGroupRef,diggs:measurementGroupRef, diggs:observationGroupRef or diggs:projectGroupRef, eachdeclared on the corresponding family base type) and diggs:groupGroupRef for a nestedgroup. This differs from the groups that substitute diggs:AbstractGroup directly(diggs:SamplingFeatureGroup, diggs:GroupGroup, diggs:ProjectGroup, diggs:MeasurementGroup and diggs:SampleGroup, all deprecated), which hold arrays ofreferences to their members. A group is a collection of related features whoseinformation can be evaluated and compared together as part of one analysis: itcarries the assumption that justifies interpreting its members jointly. A boreholeand a CPT sounding treated as one dataset under a proximity assumption form a group;two boreholes that merely lie on the same site do not. The schema cannot constrainwhich feature types a group admits or how many; that is a context-validation concerndriven from a dictionary.
Database handle for the object. It is of XML type ID, so is constrained to beunique in the XML document within which it occurs. An external identifier for the object inthe form of a URI may be constructed using standard XML and XPointer methods. This is doneby concatenating the URI for the document, a fragment separator, and the value of the idattribute.
