A single contiguous surface that does not lie within a single plane, as an array ofpolygon patches, each with an outer ring and optionally inner rings. The points of apatch are coplanar, and each patch shares an edge with an adjacent patch. Patchesare not individually addressable (no gml:id, no independent srsName); usediggs:CompositeSurface when panels need their own CRS, gml:id or reuse by reference, and diggs:MultiSurface for a collection with no assumed adjacency between members.
Database handle for the object. It is of XML type ID, so is constrained to beunique in the XML document within which it occurs. An external identifier for the object inthe form of a URI may be constructed using standard XML and XPointer methods. This is doneby concatenating the URI for the document, a fragment separator, and the value of the idattribute.
